Women workshop news

On the 24th and 25th of November 2022 a group of approximately 45 women from 13 villages participated in a women workshop. This workshop was facilitated by Samunda Jabini, a TBS consultant supported by Sara Ramirez, a TBI consultant. On the 24th the women were able to discuss the access they have or lack in the management of the natural resources and decision-making processes. In another exercise the women discuss and prioritize the resources they would like to receive support in from TBS. On the 25th of November the women had a plenary discussion on conflict management. The participants mentioned the type of conflicts they experience, whether or not they would need an umbrella women organization that would help increase the involvement of Saamaka women in decision-making processes. The women also had the opportunity to formulate a statement for the Lio Kuutu that will be held on the 3rd of December 2022. As a result of these exercises the women decided to create a WhatsApp group for the participants to discuss follow up steps that will lead to a more active involvement of the Saamaka women.
